Skull defects through drill hole trepanation often lead to unwanted scalp deepenings after craniotomies. This cosmetic defect is often neglected by neurosurgeons, because patients recover quickly during short hospitalisations, but is cosmetically unacceptable to the patient. Overmore, scalp depressions worsen when the swelling subsides at an early stage and with atrophy of the soft tissue at a late stage.
